Things you don't think of...

When embarking on this journey of a life time, there were a few things we did not consider, but now, we think about the all the time.

Such as…
  •       Have you ever thought about needing to get an oil change in your house?  Thus far, we have done it once when we were in Georgia and will need to do it again in Reno, but unlike your car, you can’t just take the RV to your closest Jiffy Lube and have it done in 30 minutes or less.  It has to be scheduled at a service location that has a lift and bay that can accommodate the RV, which are not always the easiest to find.  Additionally, you have to find something else to do while your home is busy for the day, and with 2 dogs this can be a challenge.

  •       Or have you ever thought about Christmas shopping for your spouse when you are together 24/7?  It is pretty challenging to get any alone time to make those “surprise” purchases for one another.  (This year, we didn’t.  We were together whenever we bought gifts for the other.)  On top of being together all the time and just how to buy the gifts, have you ever thought about where you are going to hide said gifts in an RV?  There is nowhere that is sacred space in Coco, where the other might not look and find your hidden gem.

  •       Next, have you thought about the conveniences you have in your home?  For most people gas lines, water lines, electricity, wi-fi and sewer lines run direct to your home.  You flip a switch, push a button or move a handle of sorts, and WHALA!  You have exactly what you want… not always the case in an RV.  Depending on the campground or RV Park you are staying at, the amenities can vary greatly.  Some do not offer any hook ups.  Some offer everything, including cable and wifi!  Most are somewhere in between.  Boondocking for a day or two without hook ups isn’t so bad because you do have a water tank, batteries and generator, but much longer without being able to shower or needing to dump your sewer tank can really stink – literally!😝

  •        Lastly, and along the same lines as above, have you ever considered which gas stations carry propane?  Probably not.  Most home owners who need propane either have a service which comes to their home on a monthly basis to fill their stationary tank, or they can take the tank to the local grocery store to refill their or trade out their tank for their barbeque.  Not so in many RVs.  The propane tanks are built in and either the entire RV goes, or you don’t get propane.  No propane, no heat, no eat.

Russell and I have learned a lot the past 6 months of being full time RVers… about our rig, about the country, and about each other.  Only 1 real argument and both of us are still here to tell the tale, but we both admit that we are looking forward to being back in Reno for a while and off the road.  See you soon Reno/Sparks!

Until next time and more food for thought,
Roberta
