Genoa Candy Dance/Craft Faire

Call me crazy, but in the midst of moving into Coco, I went to the Genoa Candy Dance/Craft Fair this past Sunday with a group of Seniors I work with through the City of Reno.  The weather was perfect... cool in the morning and sunny all day!

For those not familiar with the town of Genoa, it is the oldest settlement in Nevada and the Candy Dance/Craft Faire is an annual event that has been taking place since 1919... almost 100 years!

Genoa was settled back in 1851 by Mormon settlers.  It is one of those towns that if you blink, you will miss it, but is fantastic to visit with its museums, antique stores, old homes and quaint village.  A few years back, Russell and I were taking a drive, had a picnic lunch with us and stopped to eat at the park in Genoa.  In one of the trees in the park, there was a bear that had wandered down from Tahoe!  It made for a fun day, just watching the bear, even as he "pooped" from up above.

At this year's craft faire there were more than 300 crafting vendors!  Everything from wood working, stained glass, quilts, jewelry, knitted items, clothing, food vendors, etc. You name it, they had it and then some!  I bought a few food related items (soup mixes), but no crafts this year, given the move into Coco.

In addition to my group of Seniors, I saw a number of folks I know from Reno/Sparks, customers and friends alike. It was a fantastic day and a nice break from packing and organizing.

I highly recommend that you mark your calendar for next year's Candy Dance/Craft Faire (usually the last weekend of September) and plan to meet me in Genoa!

If you'd like more information about this fantastic event, be sure to visit their website @ Genoa.

Until next time and new adventures,
Roberta
