Mileage

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind!  We closed on the house in Wyoming on August 10th and since then, it feels like we haven't had a moment to breathe!  Poor Snow White (my car) has seen it all and done it all!  In less than a month, she has logged nearly 7,000 miles and has the scars to prove it!

Only a couple of days after closing, Russell, Major and I took a trip to Reno to retrieve all of the items we'd had in storage for the past year.  We rented a U-haul truck, borrowed a trailer from a friend and hauled it all to the new house in only 5 days (there and back).  Thank goodness we had friends on both ends to help us load and unload everything.  Otherwise, I don't know how we would have managed in such a short amount of time.

Then 3 days after returning from Reno and unloading the truck and trailer, we got back in the car and headed in the opposite direction... this time to Michigan for my brother in law's wedding.  It took us 3 days to get to Port Huron, and unfortunately because of the limited time we had to get to the wedding, we didn't stop for any scenic tours along the way.  Although, we did discover a large number of places that we would like to see in the future, especially in South Dakota.  (We are already making plans for a trip next summer.)  Good thing it is just next door.  😊

Again, it was a quick trip for the wedding... only in Michigan 2 full days for the wedding and pre-wedding festivities.  Then back in the car we were... This time driving to Denver.

We were in Colorado in support of a wonderful fundraiser event in support of Paws for Purple Hearts, the organization Russell received Major from.  Jerry Schemmel, who is one of the announcers for the Colorado Rockies and an avid cyclists rode across Colorado to raise money and awareness for Paws for Purple Hearts.  He was phenomenal and rode the width of Colorado from the Utah to Kansas borders (468 miles in 33 hours, 3 minutes).  AMAZING!

Because Russell and I aren't quite as crazy as Jerry, we drove the entire route.  With one exception... we missed a turn near the finish line and almost landed in Oklahoma instead of Kansas!  We stopped in towns across the way, cheered Jerry on and spread the word about PPH.  It was an amazing time in Colorado.  We made new friends, saw places we've never been and brought attention to this amazing organization that both Russell and I have benefited so greatly from.  Major has been a blessing to us both.

Finally on Saturday, we ventured home.  Not including our side trips, missed turns and pit stops, we logged nearly 100 hours of drive time and 6,500 miles.  Snow White needs a bath, an oil change and a new windshield because of the adventure, but it was an amazing journey.  We keep traveling!

Now, it's time to finish unpacking and get settled into our new home.  But the adventures never end!
