Rube, the Boob: RIP

Many of you know that 2 weeks ago, we made the difficult choice of putting our beloved Ruby to rest.  It was a difficult day for us all, but we know she is no longer in pain and is now trotting along in a field of grass somewhere, playing ball like she once did.

Ruby would have been 15 years old this July, and she was a part of our family since she was only 8 weeks old.  She is already deeply missed.

She was a little neurotic, in that as a young dog, she loved to steal socks and she would hide in her kennel with them and would growl at you until you simply gave up from trying to retrieve the socks.  Some folks referred to her as the "Devil Dog" when she did this, because she seemed so vicious.  She wasn't though.  She had a heart of gold and thought it was a game that she could win.

She would be at your side when you weren't well and just lay patiently until you were better.

She loved pizza crust.  It was her favorite food with a close second of string cheese... She could hear that wrapper being opened no matter where she was in the house and would come running.

She was a mouse catcher.  When we lived in Las Vegas many years ago, a mouse had gotten in the house through the dog door.  No matter what traps were set, the mouse evaded them, but it apparently couldn't evade Ruby.  She gave it to me as a present one morning... UGH!  I don't do rodents!!!

She loved all the kids and tolerated their antics of dressing her up, and although Sarah claimed her as her own, you would often find her with Hal while he was studying or playing with Zachary, Cassidy or Haley, when they were in town.

She loved to go to the dog park at the Marina to play ball in the water, although as she got older, she couldn't swim out as far to get the ball, but this was definitely one of her favorite outings.

She loved when I had people over for crafting classes.  She would greet everyone at the door, and once folks were settled and busy creating, she would simply curl up under the table until everyone was ready to go.  Then she would wish them good night, until next time.

She was a dear friend, who loved you unconditionally and will be missed.  She got to travel the country with us for a while, and for that and all the memories she provided, we are eternally grateful.

Love you Rube, the Boob!

Until next time,
Roberta
