Life is made up of special memories that tell our story. They might be big... like a wedding or the birth of a baby. Or they might be small... a trip to the park when you pushed your kids on the swing on a summer day or prepared a special meal for someone you love. Either way, those memories are part of who we are and if you don't preserve those memories, who will tell your story when you are gone?
Last weekend while at the CTMH event in Sacramento, Kristina from the Close to My Heart Home Office, shared with us that it takes only 3 generations for the stories to disappear. Think about it... a story of your grandparents'. It is so true.
My grandparents are all passed. My maternal grandfather was the first to have passed some 30+ years ago, when I was in middle school. My paternal grandmother was the last and passed about 14 years ago, and the others in between. While my mom and dad can still tell parts of my grandparents' stories, but they don't know all the details and those memories and stories from their lives are gone for good. Neither of my kids ever met either of my maternal grand parents, and Sarah only has very vague memories of my paternal grandmother. She never met my paternal grandfather, and while Hal did meet him, he was too young to remember him at all.
Who will tell your story when you are gone?
Scrapbooking allows you to tell YOUR story in your own words.
Preserve your memories now, while you can still recall the details. Tell your story through photos, memorabilia and journaling, so when you are no longer here to tell your story, you will still be remembered. This will bring joy to your loved ones and your story will live on.
Until next time and more nostalgic adventures,
Roberta
