We ventured over to the Reno Sports Complex, where in my 9 years of living in Reno/Sparks, I had never been. For those of you who do not know where the park is, it is just North of San Rafael Park on North Virginia, under the "N" on the hill. There are a number of baseball fields at the complex, as well as a Folf (Frisbee-Golf) course.
As we walked around the park, starting at Evan Canyon Trailhead, we discovered some beautiful artwork that neither of us expected.
We discovered the National Monument to the Basque Sheepherder. Clearly weathered and tarnished from the elements, the copper sculpture was gorgeous against the fall colors of the trees. We were able to learn about the Basque, where their original settlements were and take in the view of the city.
I have never laid claim to being an artist, only a crafter, but I can appreciate the art that is both man and God created, when I open my eyes and discover my own backyard.
Find somewhere in your backyard to discover. Enjoy the view and make some memories along the way!
Until next time... Happy adventures!
